Today I am regrettably discontinuing Virtual Metro. I launched this fun little project in 2019 and, according to server logs, it appears to have enjoyed modest success since then. Unfortunately, it has been down since at least March this year and perhaps earlier, and I am unable to commit to continuing to maintain it.

Virtual Metro was a website that displayed live ‘next train’ information for Victorian metropolitan trains, in the style of a Metro Trains Passenger Information Display System (PIDS). Though the website has now been discontinued, you can find the PIDS mockups at https://yingtongli.me/blog/2018/12/08/metro-trains-pids.html.

The source code for Virtual Metro remains available at https://yingtongli.me/git/virtual-metro/. The API it uses appears to still be live, so it would certainly be possible for an interested user to get this back up again.
